This is management and supervisory work, planning and coordinating information technology (IT) and geographic information system (GIS) activities, facilitating and resolving management issues associated with projects for the Sarasota County Property Appraiser (SCPA). Includes two local area networks, an intranet, internet, and approximately 100+ personal computers. Responsibilities include, promoting and enhancing the use and development of the GIS. Defining and setting project goals and objectives, establishing completion dates, identifying and securing resources are specific duties required of the position. Provide leadership, support and professional guidance to IT/GIS staff, as well as development and management of an annual budget, planning and managing GIS projects. This position will work closely with the SCPA Management and Staff providing status reports as to the progress and cost of GIS projects. Skills: Must be good communicator possessing strong written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge regarding a variety of government operations is highly desirable. Technical familiarity with information systems and data management is required. A thorough knowledge of GIS software i.e. ESRI products (ArcInfo, ArcMap, ArcIMS, ArcSDE) are specific examples. A sound background in operating systems and platforms (Exchange server and SQL server) is required, as is a basic understanding of application software packages, with emphasis on Microsoft products. Experience: Three + years proven management experience overseeing projects and maintenance functions of IT / GIS departments. Examples would be as a GIS Coordinator, or Manager. Must have a minimum of 3 years of documented supervisory experience directing the work of others, including training of users. Must demonstrate accomplished skills by providing non-returnable work product samples. Possess proof of advanced appraisal training & certification or designation. A valid Florida driver’s license is required. Exceptional communication and computer skills are necessary. Significant contact with the public and expert testimony required. We are easy to find and conveniently located with offices in Downtown Sarasota and Venice. Our offices are open Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Extended hours generally are offered to accommodate the March 1 filing deadline and are published in local daily newspapers. |
